ATTENTION! TRYOUT SIGNUP!
FOR 2013/2014 BIRTHYEARS
TRYOUTS FOR THIS TEAM, 2013G, IS JUNE 11TH AT 10AM ON SUMMIT STADIUM FIELD
Current 026FC or New, please let us know if you're daughter will be coming by clicking HERE
Coaches
Eric Hill & Rick Stark
What was our format going into this 2023-24 season?
2013G Stark played 7v7 in SLYSA division 5 in the Spring 2023 season ( Roster: 10 players)
2013G Hill played 7v7 in SLYSA division 4 in the Spring 2023 season ( Roster: 10 players)
Both teams have 10 different players each (20 total).
We hope our 2023-24 Team will be playing in Division 4 or 3 next year...
Goalkeeper Evaluations & Player Evaluations
We are NOT looking for a full time goalkeeper. We hope to rotate this position and/or find a small group of girls wanting to play Goalkeeper. We feel it is too early for any player to specialize in Goalkeeping or any position at that.
Goalkeeper Specialization Article
In regards to field players, players will not be looked to as a position but rather, a "soccer player". We will be looking not just at athleticism such as speed, agility etc., but also their ability to handle the ball, dribble and protect the ball and their ability to "move the ball". Equally as important is the player's availability, buy-in, commitment to the team, family's commitment to the experience, etc.
***Keeping 13-14 players will be our aim. This is done for purposes of playing time and happiness. A larger roster usually has adverse effects.***
WHAT HAS HAPPENED ALREADY?
We have held two kickarounds (May 3rd and May 7th). We will hold tryouts in June (EXACT DATE AND TIME TBD).
If you missed the kickarounds, no worries! The kickarounds are NOT a prerequisite for the tryout! Please let us know if you're coming by clicking the link above!
TRAINING/PLAYING STYLE (See pictures at bottom of this page)
Each training session will follow the following format:
Buzz Activity (Fun / Engaging), Technical Work, Tactical Work, Small-Sided Games/"Go big".
During games will hope our Playing Style is:
Attacking: Defensive 1/3 = Limited touches, middle 1/3 Limited Touches, Final 1/3 1v1's, give and go, creative play. Will value our shape and trust each other.
Defending: Creating turnovers via a trigger press in opponent half, valuing stay tight and goal-side on marks, protecting the box, "that's my ball and you cannot have it" mentality.
Linked Influences: Raymond Verheijen, Mike "Vader" Gauvain, U.S. Soccer Curriculum
PRACTICE SCHEDULE
FALL 2023: TUE & THUR. 6:00PM-7:30PM
WINTER 2023/24: HILL WILL TRY TO HOLD INDOOR FUTSAL ONCE A WEEK AT SUMMIT
SPRING 2024: WED + 1 OTHER DAY CURRENTLY BEING DECIDED UPON IN SPRING 2024
**No matter the season, we MAY have weekly homework in which the player has to watch 30 minutes of a soccer game on tv or work on ball skills at home for a total of 30 minutes. The reason for this is to not create a better player but rather a smarter player and one who learns how to invest in themselves. More about the mindset than anything!
GROWING IDEAS FOR 2023-24 SEASON
-We would love to have a one day team bonding day at Summit late in the Summer of 2023 so the girls can play soccer, eat together, do fun team-building activities, swim, etc. This would be for purposes of team bonding more than soccer! I would appreciate a Female adult be there to help! It would be 3-4 hours long.
- We hope to play in a tournament that will require a 1 overnight stay at a hotel in Fall of 2023.
NOT A FEEDER TEAM:
The 026FC teams are not seen as feeder teams to Rockwood Summit Girls' Soccer! Of course it is ideal getting players who live in the community to play together! That's what makes 026FC special! However, we know a handful of girls play at a variety of clubs and in the name of basic principles of fairness, we feel it is only right to make it known that playing 026FC does not guarantee any player/family a spot later on during the player's high school year's at Rockwood Summit.
OUR PLAN / STARTING FALL 2023:
Due to moving 9v9 next year and a max roster size of 16 players, 2013G Stark and 2013G Hill will be holding a tryout in June (Date TBD) to MERGE to ONE TEAM STARTING FALL OF 2023. We look to keep 14 players (15 is the absolute maximum we will keep) and NOT the full 16 to ensure playing time. In fact, we have been told by a variety of coaches that 13 players is ideal for a 9v9 team. A big roster gets crowded really quickly and usually has adverse effects!
Why? As mentioned we currently have 20 players between the two teams but not enough coaches for a second team at the 2013 birth year. Therefore, due to the rules of the roster size and no other 2013G coach, we are forced into a tryout. Should another coach come forward willing to coach at the 2013G level, Eric Hill proposes that team become the B Team / 2nd Team and be completely independent (in terms of finding practice space, practice plans, coaching games, etc...)
This new team will be registered as a 2013 Girls Team in SLYSA, will play SLYSA in the FALL AND SPRING, in addition to playing in an 8-game winter league at STL ATHLETIC. We also hope to do a short travel tournament in the Fall OR Spring! The team will be coached by (Head) Eric Hill and (Assistant) Rick Stark. We hope to begin in Division 4, if not Division 3 starting in the Fall of 2023.
This is ODD! Other clubs do not hold tryouts and dismiss players! Other clubs DO hold tryouts and separate groups by putting "alike" players together. This means they group players that fit within a similar margin of competitiveness, technical abilities, tactical understanding, character and athleticism. However, 026FC is a small club with a different platform than bigger clubs. We do not have 5-6 teams at each age level like other clubs due to not having a corporate model but rather 1 team at each age level (a few with 2 teams).
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY DAUGHTER DOES NOT MAKE THE 2013G TEAM TRYOUTS IN JUNE OF 2023? WHERE CAN SHE PLAY?
IF BORN IN 2013 - She is not eligible to play with any team registered as 2014 or younger, NO MATTER THE CLUB. This is a rule by SLYSA, not 026FC. Players are allowed to play up in age and allowed to play up a division, however you cannot play down in age or division. If your daughter does not make this team, unfortunately we do not have another 2013 team for her. However there is a 2012 girls' team coached by Coach Schweigert. His team site is located HERE.
IF BORN IN 2014 - We HIGHLY suggest you contact Bill Zobrist if she is a 2014 or 2015. His team site is located HERE.
ESTIMATED 2023-24 EXPENSES FOR 2013 026FC GIRLS WILL BE COMPARABLE TO THE 2022-23 EXPENSES, SEEN BELOW. WE WILL BE ADDING A FIELD/GYM RENTAL FEE BUT THIS PRICE IS STILL FAR CHEAPER THAN NEARLY EVERY CLUB, IF NOT THE CHEAPEST!!! PUT YOUR SAVED MONEY IN A 529 OR COLLEGE SAVINGS ACCOUNT!!! YOUTH SPORTS DONE THE RIGHT WAY...
